Research Library & Archives

The Research Library and Archives are open by appointment only on Monday and Thursday from 1:00 - 4:00. Email Elaine DeNiro, edeniro@roswellgov.com to schedule an appointment.

 

The Research Library and Archives are a repository for historical collections of the Roswell Historical Society and the City of Roswell. Resources include information about the history of the city of Roswell and its environs, early settlers, the area’s textile mills, the Civil War, Cherokee Indians, local African American heritage, properties in the historic district, family genealogies, local businesses, and social and civic organizations.

Online Catalog 

The Roswell Historical Society/City of Roswell Research Library and Archives has an extensive collection of photographs, books and maps of the Roswell area and its residents that can be searched here. Our archives date from the 1840s to present-day. Search our online archives and collections catalog by keywords and search terms here.

Artifacts

The archives  house a large collection of artifacts including furniture, farm implements, mill items and household objects.

Manuscripts

The manuscript collections include personal papers, business records, and material pertaining to social and cultural organizations. 

Newspapers

Our extensive newspaper collections include the Roswell Herald and North Fulton Herald from the 1940s-1960s.

Maps

The map collection includes maps of the Southeastern United States, Georgia and its counties, and Roswell and its environs.

Photographs

The textile collections contain vintage clothing, including hats and accessories, and antique quilts.

There are over 1000 volumes on the history of Roswell, the state of Georgia and its counties, including an extensive collection of rare books.​

Our resource guides contain family, subject, and residence information about Roswell’s sites and families.

Image Reproductions

The Roswell Historical Society and the City of Roswell Research Library and Archives offer limited digital reproduction services of materials in its collections. Fees are based on scanning services and are available for materials that can withstand the process.  More information on ordering and fees below.

 

Use fees for images intended for commercial and non-profit purposes will be assessed.

We encourage you to consider donating your historical materials to Roswell Historical Society/City of Roswell Research Library and Archives, where they will be preserved so they can inform and inspire future generations. The Roswell Historical Society/City of Roswell Research Library and Archives. has been collecting books, manuscripts, maps, newspapers, photographs videos, personal papers and artifacts about the city of Roswell and its environs since 1994. Much of our collections are the result of donations from individuals, families, and organizations that recognize our facility as a secure and trustworthy repository for housing and caring for historical materials and making them accessible to the public.
