Old Roswell Cemetery
Established in 1836
The Roswell Historical Society is committed to preserving and restoring the historic cemeteries of Roswell. Our primary focus is on those cemeteries which may not have an organization, such as the city or a church, caring for them. For those, we seek to record the information on those buried there. We schedule monument cleaning events to help slow the erosion of the information.
Hembree
Farm
Established in 1835
The Hembree Farm, circa. 1835, is an ongoing project for our Society. We are working to preserve a portion of the original Hembree farmstead, one of the oldest in north Fulton County. Amariah Hembree and his son, Elihu Hembree, were pioneer settlers in the 1830s on land once occupied by Cherokee farmers. The Hembrees grew cotton for the old Roswell Manufacturing Company, and, along with other early settlers, organized the Lebanon Baptist Church at their farmhouse in 1835.
Historical
Markers
Established in early 1980s
We place markers to identify historic sites in Roswell. Our Markers program began in the early 1980s. New markers are placed when a property is deemed of historic significance. Currently, we have 34 markers around Roswell. Click here for a walking/driving tour map of our markers. Does your property deserve historic recognition?
